I first discovered Hunters HD Gold eyewear in 2021 when I began competition shooting. What drove me to try them was a piece of shrapnel from a bullet striking a metal target, which cracked the cheap frame of the eye protection I was wearing at a USPSA match. Luckily, Hunters HD Gold had a booth set up at that event, and Brian was kind enough to lend me a pair of gold aviators.
It has been over five years since that day, and I have worn nothing else, both on and off the range. Sometimes I choose style over function because I like to look sharp and professional. Fortunately, with Hunters HD Gold I never have to choose between the two.
In the world of competition shooting, where vision plays a huge role, high-quality, impact-resistant eyewear is nonnegotiable. Beyond the protection, the lenses are perfectly suited for the range. I can be disorganized at times, and having glasses that automatically darken and lighten according to the sun keeps me from constantly switching between, and keeping track of, multiple pairs. That convenience is priceless.
When the AktiveBlu line came out, I tried a pair for driving. The AktiveBlu lenses darken even behind a car’s UV-blocking windshield. They also become quite clear when worn indoors, striking the ideal balance between style and function. We all want to be the person cool enough to wear shades inside, and the blues fill that role perfectly.
In my business and in competition, I am in airports constantly. Especially when traveling, it is nice to look put-together. I cannot put a number on how much better the service is when I look refined, but there is undoubtedly a correlation between appearance and how people perceive you. With all of my travel and airline status, when I am in first class or the lounge, I not only see the difference, I feel it when wearing AktiveBlu in a nice frame.
Competition pistol shooting is a sport in which high-quality equipment is paramount, and I thoroughly enjoy the fact that off the range I am sporting equally high-quality eyewear. Everyone understands the good feeling of a new set of clothes or driving a new car. I get that same feeling in competition, when traveling, or on the beach. I might try to save a buck by fixing an appliance myself instead of calling a professional, but neither the safety and quality of my vision nor my presentation of self are places where I cut corners.
